“And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him” – Acts 8:37-38
On 17th Aug 2020, Liberty Baptist Church held its second baptism service for the year 2020 at Cornerstone Church. Peter Line was the event organizer, had the venue setup as required by NSW COVID Safe requirements, and pool filled with warm water before the baptism candidates arrived. Pastor Keith Piper preached a short sermon based on the passage in Acts 8:26-38 about the Ethiopian eunuch who underwent the water immersion baptism, detailing that baptism was a step of obedience after one’s salvation. Hamed Mehrzadeh and Nojan Rahbar assisted Pastor Piper with English to Farsi translation for the sermon followed by instructions on the actual baptism itself. It was a blessed occasion with a total of 19 baptisms that evening, praise the Lord! Some were very recent converts. Pastor Piper’s innovative idea of getting the wet baptismal candidates to stand in a box stuffed with towels for a minute or two after they came out of the baptism pool was a stroke of pure genius! It reduced the amount of water logging by 65%, making it a much easier task for cleaning up after the Baptism event. Wipe down of surfaces after the event was carried out by Noojan, Hamid and Peter. COVID Safe requirements did add in more work but as there was a team working on it, it went pretty smoothly and quickly. Pastor Piper was busy preparing and handing out the Baptism Certificates to the happy and eager baptism participants, after the event.
Our heartfelt thanks to those who supported this baptism service in terms of assistance (Hamed, Noojan) and prayers, especially to the Cornerstone Church who prayed specifically for this baptism during their regular prayer meeting held on the 15th Aug. For those who would like to be baptized, the next baptism planned for this year will be held on the 16th of Nov 2020 (3rd Monday of Nov). Please contact Peter Line 0484 004 892 for details.
